The modern United States Navy Baseball Club was founded by retired U.S. Navy Commander Terry Allvord in Pensacola, Florida in 1990 before moving to San Diego for the 1993 season. This program is the leader in armed forces baseball in the modern era.

The Navy pays 100% of the tuition, room and board, medical and dental care costs of Naval Academy midshipmen. In addition, all midshipmen receive: $1,087.80 per month, which covers the cost of laundry, activity fees, barbers, cobblers, yearbook and other services. 100% post-graduation employment.

The program is responsible for grants and awards that recognize superiority in athletics and a comprehensive scholarship program to ensure that the Naval Academy has the best scholar-athletes in the nation.

Academy athletes drafted by professional sports leagues or signed to free-agent contracts had been able to apply for those waivers in the past. But in 2022, lawmakers rescinded that policy, mandating that those service members complete at least two years of active duty service before being eligible for a waiver.
